Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate is a mineral-based non-irritating substance. It can therefore be found in numerous skin care and beauty products that we daily use for our personal care and hygiene, such as toothpastes, deodorants, cosmetics...   Some tips?

Take a refreshing and relaxing bath!

If added to your bath, it has a relaxing and softening effect on your skin! For a pampering and revitalizing bath soak, fill your bath tub with warm water (about 37°C) and dissolve 150 g of Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate in it: a 10-15 min. soak will provide healing benefits and make you feel regenerated at once! And what about a body scrub? The result will be incredible: Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate gently exfoliates your skin, helps to remove dead skin easily and in a most gentle way and leaves it soft and smooth. And for a long-lasting, fresh feeling why not adding some drops of your preferred citrus essential oil to complete your personal beauty farm at home?

Another tip for a purifying body scrub: mix 4 spoons of cleansing milk with 2 spoons of Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate into a paste and rub it delicately on your skin, better if with an scrubbing glove. Then rinse with lukewarm water, dip dry with a soft towel and apply your body milk on your skin. The effect is highly purifying and beneficial!

Facial scrub

Time for an invigorating, yet gentle, facial scrub! Make a paste of 3 parts of Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate to 1 part of water, rub in gentle circular motion to increase circulation and rinse clean. This will remove dead skin cells and leave your skin soft and smooth. Gentle enough for daily use!

And what about a stimulating beauty mask?  First dissolve a spoon (25 g) of Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate in a basin with warm water and cover your head with a towel for about 10 min. The vapour will increase oxygenation and circulation, open the pores and eliminate impurities. Then apply your beauty cream, it will be better absorbed. Excellent to moisture your skin and keep it soft and smooth-feeling!

Foot & Hand soak

To enjoy more of these incredible, safe and effective tips on Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate, add 2 tablespoons (50 g) of Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate to yourwarm foot bath, it soothes swollen and achy feet and legs! A bit of Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate dissolved in warm water will have a calming, yet reviving effect on your tired feet and legs, whereas made into a paste and applied on your skin it softens and eliminates callouses.

For a perfect manicure, treat your nails and hands in the same, delicate way, with Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate! Add up to 50 g of product to a basin of warm water, agitate the water to fully dissolve the product and soak your hands for about 10 min. Then enjoy your manicure!

Soft and shiny hair

Here’s a beauty tip for shiny glossy hair: everyone can have smooth and healthy looking hair with Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate. Once a month, add 1 tablespoon of Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate to 2 spoons of your shampoo and your hair will look great! Beside being the key to a healthy sheen, Solvay® Sodium Bicarbonate also delicately removes any stubborn, sticky residues of lacquer or gel from your hair.

Fresh ‘n clean!

Each time you eat, food residues stick en ferment between your teeth producing acids that affect your tooth enamel, which is the main cause of dental plaque and caries. Solvay® sodium bicarbonate, being a buffer, neutralizes these acids and therefore protects your teeth against dental decay. Besides, if used properly, Solvay® sodium bicarbonate refreshes your breath and avoids those annoying nasty smells that are caused by acids (onion, garlic) and bases (fish).

The gentle abrasive, whitening and  acid neutralizing qualities of Solvay® sodium bicarbonate    make it therefore an attractive ingredient for toothpaste manufacturers. It is also very useful if used from time to time on your toothbrush to whiten teeth when stained by cigarettes and coffee.

To make your own refreshing mouthwash, dissolve a teaspoon (5 g) of Solvay® sodium bicarbonate in a cup of lukewarm water, swill it around your mouth for about 30 seconds, then spit and rinse with plain water.Solvay® sodium bicarbonate neutralizes acidic bacteria in your mouth, which will freshen your breath!

To keep your toothbrush and denture clean leave them to soak overnight in some water and Solvay® sodium bicarbonate, and then rinse well.

Solvay® Sodium bicarbonate as an anti-perspirant

Deodorants, in the shape of sprays, atomisers, sticks or gels, neutralize or conceal body odour and, in some cases, stop perspiration. They usually combine metal salts with bactericidal active agents, some of which may irritate sensitive or allergic skins. Solvay® sodium bicarbonate is an excellent alternative to correct body odours, as sodium bicarbonate is known for its ability to neutralize odours, and to act as a bactericide (it stops the development of certain bacteria); it has also a gentle action on the skin.

Many brands of cosmetics and toiletries market deodorants containing sodium bicarbonate.

Solvay® sodium bicarbonate is also used in the manufacture of cosmetics, toiletries, fragrances, and in lots of personal beauty skin care products, such as protective creams,water resistant sunscreens, self-tanning products, or hair care and make-up products... all with the aim to clean, perfume, and protect or keep them in good shape.

From time to time, an all-natural Solvay® sodium bicarbonate-based mineral soak will quickly cleans and deodorize your dog’s fur without irritating the skin, leaving him fresh smelling!
